| Frequently Asked Questions
Help, I posted a listing but it isn't showing up!
- The system attempts to ensure that you are how you say you are (or at least that your email address is correct). After posting a listing, you should receive an email at the address you listed. The email will contain a url to which you must go to have the listing actually posted.
I tried going to the link to activate my listing and it didn't work!
- The url in the email is mildly long because it contains a 50 character random sequence unique to each listing. Many inferior mail clients will wrap the url onto two lines. So, when you click on the link, you don't go to the correct place. Simply copy and paste both parts of the url into your preferred browser and things should work.
How do I edit or remove a listing?
- Browse to the listing and click on "Click here to edit/remove this listing." You will need to enter the password for your listing. If you don't know it (it's what came after the &random_sequence= part of the url to which you went to activate the listing) you can click on a link to have it sent to you. At the top of the next page will be an option to remove your listing.

What constitutes abuse of the Marketplace system?
-Generally, placing numerous listings into categories in which they do not belong is considered abuse. This is essentially spam and will not be tolerated. Also, reposting a listing multiple times a day in an attempt to always keep a listing in the "What's New" section is abuse. Try to keep reposts to once a week as that's the shortest expiration time for a listing. Selling stolen property or anything blatantly illegal is, of course, also abuse. When in doubt, just ask
To whom do I report Marketplace abuse?
-You can report abuse of the marketplace.uchicago.edu system to . He does not frequently monitor the site, so don't expect abuses/problems to be corrected unless you report them.
