Fields explained

Displayed email Address
You have the option of registering a listing with one email address (the "Email Address" field) and having a different one displayed in the listing itself. There are two possible reasons to do this. First, you may not want everyone to know who you are, especially since you are required to register with a uchicago.edu email address (i.e., the address must end with uchicago.edu). Secondly, you may want emails concerning the listing and/or spam to go to a different account (e.g. a yahoo or hotmail account). If you want this address to be the same as the one you register with, just check the box labeled "Same as above".

Note: Absolutely no effort is made to ensure that this address belongs to you or is even an email address. You can type anything you want here.

Antispam email address
If you select the antispam function, the email address displayed in your listing will be embedded into a picture instead of becoming a link. The benefit of this function is that it's extremely unlikely that a spammer will be able to harvest your email address. The drawback to this function is that potential buyers must manually type in your email address when they want to reply to the listing (making the picture a link would defeat its purpose). If you don't select the antispam feature, the address displayed in your listing will simply be a link as in all previous versions.

Picture URL
The picture URL must begin with "http://". We have no capability to host images, so you'll have to have them on your own webspace. The University provides webspace for every student. Please check with your RCA or tech support team if you don't know how to access it and upload images. If the URL begins with "C:\...", then the picture is on your computer, and others will not be able to see it.

The final part of your URL must be ".jpg", ".jpeg", ".gif", ".png", etc. in order to work. If you have a web page describing the item you have for sale (e.g., something ending in ".html" or ".htm") then you can link to it in the main listing section, in which you can include whatever HTML you want (i.e., more images using img tags, links to webpages using anchor tags, formatting tags, etc.). Also note that many picture hosts (e.g. Yahoo) will block your images from being viewed in the context of a webpage that is not on the same server! So your pictures will not be viewable from your Marketplace ad, they are only viewable from a page hosted on the Yahoo site. (Linking to images on a different server is referred to as "hot-linking" by some picture hosts, and sometimes you have to pay to enable it.) We strongly recommend learning how to use your U of C webspace for hosting your pictures to avoid this kind of trouble.

If you want to simply link to another picture or website, please put the following HTML code in your listing:
